Night Diving in Curaçao
Curaçao's calm, accessible reefs make it a superb place to night dive, when the coral comes alive with octopus, lobster, basket stars, sleeping fish and flashes of bioluminescence.
Many of the same easy shore sites dived by day reveal an entirely different cast after dark. Operators run guided night dives, and on the right nights divers witness the tiny string-of-pearls glow of bioluminescent ostracods on the reef. It is an advanced-leaning experience best done with a dive operator and a good torch; the warm, current-free water keeps it comfortable.
Good to know
- Go with a guided operator and carry a backup torch.
- Look for octopus, lobster and sleeping parrotfish.
- On the right nights, watch for bioluminescent "blue tears."
