Rif Fort is a robust 19th-century coastal fortress on the Otrobanda side of the harbour, now reinvented as an open-air complex of shops, restaurants and bars within its thick stone walls.
A UNESCO-listed structure, it once defended the harbour entrance alongside Fort Amsterdam across the water.
Today you can wander its ramparts for views of the cruise terminal and Queen Emma Bridge, then dine or have a drink in the courtyards below
It is about eight minutes' walk via the bridge from the hotel.
