Hato Caves
The Hato Caves are a network of limestone caverns north of Willemstad, explored on a guided tour past stalactites, stalagmites, a small underground waterfall and resident bats.
The caves also preserve ancient Arawak petroglyphs, hinting at the island's first inhabitants. Tours are walking-paced with some steps and humidity; the cool interior is a relief from the midday sun. It is an easy 20-minute drive from town and a good rainy-day or hot-afternoon option, often combined with the nearby ostrich farm.
